Rocpower
Rocpower has been created to develop small biomass power plants that will use bio-fuels sourced and supplied by Rocfuel, using the full logistics expertise of parent company Hargreaves Services plc.
The main focus of the UK Government’s Energy White Paper (May 2007) was to reduce carbon emissions; the UK is already progressing from a dependence on energy derived exclusively from fossil fuels to a point where more of its energy mix is being supplied by a range of renewable fuels. The White Paper was particularly supportive towards the development of small Distributed Renewable Power Plants and it is this particular market sector where Rocpower will develop projects.
Rocpower specialises both in the construction and the commercial operation of small Distributed Generation Power Projects and our first site has been operating as a bio-fuel testing facility for over one year. The data and experience gained will lead - during 2009 and 2010 - to the construction of a number of other sites in various locations throughout the UK.
The construction of the first commercial site commenced in 2009 in West Yorkshire.
Rocpower and our bio-fuel supply company, Rocfuel, recognise the sensitivity that surrounds the use of virgin vegetable oils for the production of electricity. We have, therefore, made a public statement that our intention is not to use any virgin vegetable oils in our plants to produce electricity.
The bio-fuels we will use are co-products - secondary bio-fuels - which are not suitable for use as food. This decision means our plant design and fuel processing equipment is significantly more complex and expensive compared to equipment designed to use only virgin vegetable oils; this decision also presents our Rocpower team with a far more challenging maintenance regime.
Our power plants will only use bio-fuels that are OFGEM accredited.
Our bio-fuel Sustainability Policy (which you can view by clicking here) means we are confident we will always exceed by a significant margin any future EU sustainability policy that will be introduced.
Our Rocpower and Rocfuel businesses are managed and operated from our Glasshoughton Offices. To find out more about Rocpower and Rocfuel, please contact:
