Divisions

Hargreaves Production Division produces coal, coke, and smokeless fuel briquettes; it recycles tyres for customers throughout the UK and in Europe; and it is developing a number of small biomass power plants.

Maltby Colliery, located near Rotherham, South Yorkshire, is one of the UK’s last working deep mines – and one of the most modern. It produces more than 1.2 million tonnes of coal each year and employs more than 500 people.

The Monckton Coke & Chemical Company has been producing metallurgical coke for more than 130 years at its site near Barnsley, South Yorkshire. Monckton is the only independent coke works in the UK and takes its coal from Maltby Colliery to produce more than 200,000 tonnes per year of the highest-quality coke for UK and European markets.

Maxibrite Ltd, based in South Wales, is a leading manufacturer of solid fuel, making smokeless fuel briquettes for domestic heating markets in the UK and in Europe.

Monckton Rubber Technologies recycles 30,000 tonnes of waste vehicle tyres per year into rubber crumb and wire at its processing centre in Sheffield. Markets for our rubber crumb include surfacing for children’s playgrounds, the carpet industry and soil enhancement programmes.

Rocpower develops small biomass power plants that use bio-fuels sourced and supplied by Rocfuel, using the full logistics expertise of parent company Hargreaves Services plc.
