Tyre Recycling

Monckton Rubber Technologies (MRT) is one of Europe’s leading producers of high quality wire-free rubber crumb, made from end-of-life waste car, truck and bus tyres.
Total Tyre Recycling
MRT, based in Sheffield, can receive up to 40,000 tonnes of tyres per year. These end-of-life tyres go through a process called Total Tyre Recycling. The process shreds and granulates waste tyres; it extracts and cleans tyre wire; it separates out tyre fibre and other by-products - and the result is high quality rubber crumb.
Tyre shredding and granulation
The MRT process begins with the primary shredding of waste tyres to a size of about 150mm. The shredded rubber is then granulated over and over again to ultimately produce top quality wire-free rubber crumb ideal for a wide range of end uses
Wire extraction
MRT uses magnet stations along the production line to extract wire from the rubber crumb. The extracted wire is repeatedly cleaned until it achieves a standard high enough to become a saleable commodity in its own right. The wire is sold to customers loose in quantities to suit their needs.
Tyre fibre and other by-products
MRT has developed additional secondary processes in order to manage all tyre-derived materials, and these products are being introduced to new and existing markets
