What our staff say... Driver Applications General Applications

Gerard Cleary, LGV Driver
Hargreaves Transport Services

“I joined the Company in 2001. During this time I have enjoyed the great team working that we have. All of the drivers work hard and there is often a lot of pressure in the job to ensure that we achieve our targets. But when you need something all you have to do is ask and you will always find colleagues will help you out.”

Sam Stewart, Administrator
Hargreaves Mineral Services - Immingham

"I have worked in the office at the Astra site in Immingham since October 2005. There are many aspects to my job ranging from scheduling trains, wages, monitoring & updating records. As they say variety is the spice of life & you never know what the day will bring at Hargreaves in Immingham, & so often it does. I enjoy working with my fellow employees & know if I need any advice or support regarding work there is always someone who can help me throughout the company. Our site is not the cleanest of environments but we work together as a team to achieve the aims of the business."

Phil Upcraft, Health & Safety Officer
Norec Limited
“When I joined Hargreaves in 2003 I was taken on as a site foreman. Since then I was asked to take on responsibility for the Health and Safety on the site at Immingham and then for the whole Industrial division. Recently I have been promoted to Health and Safety Officer. The Company has supported my professional studies and I have now obtained my NEBOSSH certificate.”

Dennis Bagshaw, Training Officer
Maltby Colliery Ltd

"I joined the company on the 6th May 1985 as an Administration Officer for what was then British Coal working from Manton Colliery, Worksop. The site closed in February 1994, so I moved to Maltby Colliery as the Training Officer. Since then there have been a few acquisitions, culminating with Hargreaves acquiring the Maltby Colliery business in February 2007. "
"It is my job to ensure that all employees on site, including visiting contractors, are all suitably qualified and authorised for the job they are going to do and that accurate records are maintained on site. I monitor all training that is completed on site and make sure it is carried out by suitably qualified people."

Keith Oldham - Leading Hand, Carbonisation
Monckton Coke Works

"I have worked at Monckton since 2003, starting as an oven operator learning all the carbonisation operations.  A number of months ago the company advertised for Leading Hands, which was a first step into management, I applied and was successful."
" Since then I have attended college to take various management courses and have now started my second year of the ILM Certificate in First Line Management to help develop my skills.  The company pays for my studies and this is a great benefit to me."
" There are many changes happening at Monckton the new Guide & Dust Hood, Larry Car modifications, and bench repairs all things that make it a better working environment for myself and my team."

Steven Butler, Transport Manager
Hargreaves Waste Services
"I joined Hargreaves in November 2004, after transferring from a company where I had been a driver for the previous 3 years. In January 2005, there was a vacancy for a Driver Trainer in the Waste Division, which I applied for and was successful. Hargreaves sent me on various external training courses for this role to enable me to develop the skills required for the job. I was also asked to assist the Transport Manager by covering his duties during holidays which enabled me to gain further experience in the company. When the Transport Manager left in July 2006, I was appointed as the replacement. I have continued to receive great support from Hargreaves both internally as well as from further external training and I have been able to acquire my National CPC. "

" I really enjoy my job. Every day is a challenge; there is no monotony as every day is different and I have always been supported and encouraged to develop new skills."
