| Keith Oldham - Leading Hand, Carbonisation Monckton Coke Works "I have worked at Monckton since 2003, starting as an oven operator learning all the carbonisation operations. A number of months ago the company advertised for Leading Hands, which was a first step into management, I applied and was successful."" Since then I have attended college to take various management courses and have now started my second year of the ILM Certificate in First Line Management to help develop my skills. The company pays for my studies and this is a great benefit to me."" | Steven Butler, Transport Manager Hargreaves Waste Services "I joined Hargreaves in November 2004, after transferring from a company where I had been a driver for the previous 3 years. In January 2005, there was a vacancy for a Driver Trainer in the Waste Division, which I applied for and was successful. Hargreaves sent me on various external training courses for this role to enable me to develop the skills required for the job. I was also asked to assist the Transport Manager by covering his duties during holidays which enabled me to gain further experience in the company. When the Transport Manager left in July 2006, I was appointed as the replacement. I have continued to receive great support from Hargreaves both internally as well as from further external training and I have been able to acquire my National CPC.
