Continual research means that we are constantly evaluating alternative and modern technologies to reduce our environmental impact. For instance, projects currently in hand include the improvement of coke oven operations to reduce emissions, the use of Reed Bed Technology for waste-water treatment and the micro-biological treatment of ammoniacal liquor.
We produce our coke using high temperature carbonisation which involves heating coal in the absence of air. During the process, which takes approximately 20 hours, by-products such as Benzole, Tar and ammoniacal liquor are removed, leaving a coke with a high carbon content. |
