Hargreaves Services acquired Maltby Colliery in South Yorkshire from UK Coal plc in February 2007.
Maltby Colliery has been a working mine since 1908. Shaft sinking started in Sept 1907 and production started in 1911 and is one of the few remaining deep mines in the UK.
In 2006, it produced approximately 800,000 tonnes of high quality coking/industrial and power station fuel. Maltby currently employs around 500 people. In February 2007 Maltby Colliery signed a new three-year contract with Drax Power Station; Drax already accounts for approximately 60% of Maltby’s coal production.
