Within a month of completing the £19.2 million MBO of the entire ordinary share capital of Hargreaves (UK) plc., their management team have announced the acquisition of one of Yorkshire’s oldest and most respected bulk hauliers, R. Hanson & Son Ltd.

Established in 1924 the company has remained in the control of the Hanson family until the Hargreaves purchase on 1st June. They operate a fleet of bulk tipper vehicles from their operational centre in Barnsley on contracts throughout the UK and have long been recognised as a major player in the market who have attracted a number of blue chip accounts.

Former owner Jack Hanson said “I am delighted to see my family business in such good hands for the future. Joining with Hargreaves will strengthen and enhance the operation and provide a platform for an exciting new period of growth.

I have agreed to continue as an advisor to the business for the next two years and I will take pride in seeing the development of the company using the benefits of our combined resources and expertise.”

Hargreaves (UK) plc is already the largest privately owned bulk haulage company in Britain and this latest acquisition moves them even further ahead of the field.

The Hargreaves operation was the subject of a management buy-out on 30th April 2004 when it was acquired from its founder and owner, Newcastle United President, Bob Young.
