Hargreaves acquires Barnes & Tipping
Hargreaves Services plc, the UK’s leading energy support services provider, has purchased the goodwill and assets of long-established Clitheroe, Lancs-based haulage firm Barnes & Tipping from that company’s administrators, SF Plant.
Speaking on the conclusion of the deal, Hargreaves Transport Division Managing Director Mark Forrest said: “Barnes & Tipping has been in business for over 50 years, for much of that time as a successful bulk tipper operator.

“The Hargreaves group has pursued a development strategy that combines organic growth with highly-selective, precisely-targeted acquisitions – and the Barnes & Tipping acquisition fits that criterion.
“We have been looking for suitable opportunities to reinforce the Hargreaves presence in the North West for some time and we believe this deal will enable us to offer an even more comprehensive service to customers in this part of the UK.
“We are particularly pleased to announce that the Barnes & Tipping workforce – some 30 people in all – have transferred under TUPE to the Hargreaves group. The period of uncertainty which always comes with administration is now over and we are sure our new colleagues will enjoy being part of the Hargreaves ‘family’ as they bring their own unique skills into our company.”
